KULDIP SINGH LAMBA
A humble servant of the Panth
JAPJI SAHIB
PRIMAL HYMN
GOD is One the only Supreme Being,
Eternal Truth is His Name in reality, Is the Creator all of creatures and things,
Is Fearless, Sans enmity,
Is Timeless, Ageless Divinity,
Has Birthless existence
And Self Nascent Entity,
One is Enlightened through Guru’s benevolence.
CHANT
(Let us , Meditate upon and repeat His Name,)
He was True in the begining,
He was True through ages,
So is He True at times existing,
Oh Nanak, He will be True forever and aye -1-.
VERSE I
By ablution, heart is purified never,
Even washing be done hundred thousand times over,
By keeping mum uninterrupted, tranquility and trance is unachievable,
And hankering after worldly possessions, greed remains insatiable,
Even when infinite wealth is accumulated,
When thousands of clever speculations are made a hundred thousand times emulated,
Not one will go with One in reaching the Lord,
Then how shall Truth be practiced in concord
And . how shall the wall of falsehood torn asunder,
By going according to the Command and Will of the Lord Creator
Oh Nanak, the Command is destined from time incipient.
VERSE II
By the Command, forms come into being,
And the extent of the Command , cannot be put into words,
By the Command, creation generate bodies living,
And, by the Command, one is eulogised in His World,
By the Command, some high and low born,
By the Command, one is blessed,
And by the Command, some other is thrown to cycle of rebirths and deaths,
Everybody is, within the expanse of the Command,
None is, without the reach of the Word,
Oh Nanak, when one apprehends His Command,
Then no one speaks conceitedly in consciousness of the Lord.
VERSE III
Some sing His praises as being most powerful,
When they are blessed with some strength,
And some sing His praises, for His Bounties beautiful
In recognition of His lavish gifts, and ample wealth
Some sing of His sterling virtues, and mighty elegance,
And some sing of His praises, through education,
Of his tough philosophical intelligence.
Some sing , He creates and then exterminates the bodies to ashes reduction
And some sing He snuffs out life and in generosity bestows again,
Some sing He appears to be far away,
Yet others sing , He is Omnipresent in His creation
Discussions are made of the Command, but no conclusions stay,
Even by reasoning in terms of million times,
The Provider never tires of showering gifts in profusion,
But the beneficiary is tired of receiving bounties of Thine,
Men through ages and ages have enjoyed food in diffusion,
Command of the Lord is the Primal Word,
That sustains the ways and demeanour of the world,
Oh Nanak, He is ever happy, gracious , boundless Lord.
VERSE IV
True is the Lord Eternal, equitable His judgement,
Love is His language: He is infinite and Omnipotent,
One prays to invoke His blessings indulgent
The Giver Lord showers His blessings in abundance
Then, what shall one place before Him in return of His grace,
That , one can perceive His durbar above,
What utterances one’s mouth should say,
That the Lord , hearing Our Prayer , showers His Love.
Cockcrow, the hour before dawn is the time,
To sing of His praises, repeating the True Name,
Thus the Lord’s gracious Robe of love, one is destined to find,
With Divine Love wall of falsehood is banished and salvation attained,
Oh Nanak, One is sure to have learnt,
That the Supreme Being Himself, The Truthful Lord, is Omnipresent.
VERSE V
He cannot be established like an idol in a temple
He cannot be created as He is self existing,
Whoever repeats His Name is blessed and honoured,
Oh Nanak, sing praises of the Omniscient, the Infinite Being
Singing and listening , keeping fear of God in mind,
Banish anguish, imbibe enchantment in your home-like personage,
Through the guru the spiritual guide, we learnt about Name, WAHEGURU,
Through the guru we learn about wisdom of scriptures,
Through the guru we learn He is all pervading and Omnipresent,
For us, none but the Guru , the Lord is the Creator, the Preserver, Destroyer and Regenerator,
If I could comprehend the Lord’s Command I cannot describe the will conclusively,
Guru has made me to understand
That the entire living creature world is sustained and fed by Him only,
Guru has granted me this comprehension
That I may never forget the life sustainer , the Providence
.
VERSE VI
I would bathe at the sacred waters and holy waters too,
If that would at all pleases Him,
Without His Command nothing can I do,
I observe God’s creation and discover without His Will none obtain anything,
A compliance with guru’s teachings,
Gems, jewels, and pearls pop up in the mind,
To enrich the knowledge about Waheguru , the God,
Guru has made me perceive this kind,
That I may not forget, “There is only one benevolent God.”
VERSE VII
If the life span of one , extends cosmic ages four,
And that tenure be multiplied ten fold,
If one earns fame in continents nine,
And advantaged to command respect from people fine
If one wins a worthy name,
And earns great worldly fame,
But is not blessed with a gracious glance by Him,
Then there would be nobody concerned about him
He will be censured a sinner having no more worth than a worm in a cluster of vermins,
Oh Nanak, vicious turned to virtuous within
Meritorious persons are blessed by Him,
None else could be found, but He alone bestows virtues to virtuous souls living.
VERSE VIII
By straining one’s ears to God’s Name
A disciple becomes venerable saint, angel and remains in sanctified frame of mind,
By meditating, devotees realize
God alone is supporting the earth and the skies,
He is omnipresent in islands, earth and the spaces
By meditating on His Name, one fearlessly stares death in the face,
Oh Nanak, He is ever pleased with His devotees in meditation,
By meditating, one’s suffering and sins are sent to destruction.
VERSE IX
By listening to the God’s Name, one becomes superman like Shiva, Brahma and Inder the wise,
By listening to the Lord’s Name praises of God come in the mouth of the vile,
By listening to His Name, ordinary people learn about Yoga postures and
mysteries of our bodies.
By listening to the Omnicient’s Name , knowledge of scriptures like eighteen Vedas attained
Oh Nanak, the Lord is ever pleased with His devotees in meditation,
By meditating , one’s suffering and sins are sent to destruction.
VERSE X
By listening to God’s Name, generosity and contentment are acquired.
By listening to His Name comes the merit of bathing in sixty eight holy rivers,

distinguished position,

By listening to the Almighty’s Name, one masters fathomless deep understanding of life revelation,
Oh Nanak, the Lord is ever pleased with His devotees in meditation
By listening to the Omnipotent’s Name one’s suffering and sins are sent to destruction.
VERSE XII
For believers in God’s name none can fathom his state of divine consciousness,
If anyone dares to describe, no sooner he repents his attempt’s uselessness,
Paper, pen and prolific writer is powerless to confine believers divine attainments,
Believers’ divine consciousness is discussed and complimented by persons different,
So pure is Lord’s Name, immaculate, above influence and illusion free,
If anybody believes in His Name, and takes to heart similarly becomes illusion free.
VERSE XIII
By believing , intelligence and clear thoughts awaken conscience,
By believing, becomes aware of the worlds and experience God’s omnipresence,
By believing , suffering of calamities do not disturb,
By believing, fear of death does not perturb,
So pure is Lord’s Name, immaculate, above influences and illusion free,
If anybody believes in His Name and takes to heart similarly becomes illusion free.
VERSE XIV
By believing, no obstacles in life block your path,
By believing, one proceeds openly with honour éclat,
By believing, one abstains to tread paths of religious multifarious,
By believing, one finds the true path and becomes virtuous,
So Pure is Lord’s Name, immaculate above influences and illusion free,
If anybody believes in His Name and takes to heart similarly becomes illusion free.
VERSE XV
By believing, one earns paradise by entry to the door of liberation,
By believing, one ameliorates his kins conditions,
By believing, the guru himself attains Supreme Soul and provides his Sikhs salvation,
By believing, Oh Nanak, one does not go abegging for preservation,
So pure is Lord’s Name, immaculate, above influence and illusion free,
If anybody believes in His Name, and takes to heart, similarly becomes illusion free.
VERSE XVI
Those who listened and did believe are accepted
Those who listened and did believe are leaders uncontradicted
Those who listened and believe are privileged in the court of the Lord,
Those who listened and believe deserve gate of kingdom of the Lord,
Those who listened and believe are conscious of One Name of the God.
If one tries to measure and reckon the extent of creation of the God
It is well nigh impossible to count and measure the Lord’s creations, to bear the earth’s load,
God generated creatures, species various with divergent forms and nomenclatures,
All penned God’s creations with wind like swift pens resulting in failed ventures,
None had the means to write even an iota of the creation,
Then how could one measure the strength , the beauty of countenance by imagination,
The benevolence, the estimations of His bounties,
He created cosmic world, the universe with galaxies and constellations in celestial bodies,
With just one command, hundred thousand rivers of life sprang up,
Who can opine the nature, none can write a monograph,
What pleases Thee becomes fit for us living
Oh Fearless one thou art omnipresent and abidest everlasting.
VERSE XVII
In God’s creations, countless persons chant His Name,
Countless creatures live in love and kindness with others
Countless perform and play the worship game,
And countless persons practice religious austerities rather,
Countless read scriptures and Vedas sacred,
Countless persons practice yoga postures and remain dejected,
Countless sages discuss wisdom discourses of God’s secrets¸
And countless practice charity and look upon themselves as God the Large hearted,
Countless gallant men bear the trusts of swords willingly,
Who can ever opine the natures’ secrets, none can write a monograph, task unwieldly,
What pleases Thee, becomes fit for us living clever,
Oh Formless One, Thou art omnipresent and abidest everlastingly.
VERSE XVIII
Countless foolhardy, blinds are there,
Countless thieves and corrupt souls
Countless depart the world spreading reign of terror,
Countless slit the necks of others and commit murders foul,
Countless sinners depart, committing crimes,
Countless liars engage themselves in falsehood,
Countless slanderers do wrong and carry the load of sin,
Countless wicked devour filthy food,
Nanak the humble says, after considering by sublime self,
What pleases Thee, Oh God, that is good for us living clever,
Oh Formless one, Thou art omnipresent and abidest lasting ever.
VERSE XIX
Countless names of things are in the nature,
And countless places where they exist
Nature is embodiment of various unreachable astral matter,
And countless civilizations are there in galaxies thick,
Saying ‘countless’ they err,
In so saying they take burden to limit the creation infinite,
Yet through word is Name written and uttered,
Through Word is God discussed and derived insight,
Through Word, wisdom of lyrics and its virtuous knowledge attained,
Though Word, writing of scriptures carried out,
Speaking is by mouth of words delivered,
Through Words destiny of others’ predicted and uttered,
Who wrote this, nothing is on his head,
As He commands so much people enjoy opportunities and endure sufferings,
He created the world, that is all his image,
Without Name there is not any place of living,
Who can opine the Nature, none can write a monograph, task unwieldly,
What pleases Thee, becomes fit for us living clever,
Oh Formless One, Thou art Omni present and abidest lasting ever.
VERSE XX
When hands, feet and torso of body be in state of contamination,
Then washing with water may cleanse the filth,
When clothes be soiled and polluted with dirt and excretion,
With soap they be washed and cleansed forth,
If mind be defiled with vice and deadly sin,
That could be washed only with love of His Name
And having faith in Him
Meritorious – saint and lowly-sinner are not meaningless words to sing,
They are nomenclature derived in return for good or bad deed done living,
Effect of deeds are carried forward from birth-death-rebirth circle repeated,
What you yourself sow, you personally reap and bite,
Oh Nanak, at God’s command , birth-death-rebirth circle has to be traversed.
VERSE XXI
By visiting holy places and pilgrimages. Practicing austerities,
Showing kindness and giving charities,
If any benefit is accrued, it is short-lived tiny sublimity,
By listening, believing and having love and fear of creator the Almighty
One is veritably bathing his inner self in holy waters of salvation,
Oh Lord, all merits emanate from Thee, I am merely a mortal nonenity.
Without virtuous deeds, none attained heights of saintly station,
You are Eternal, Beautiful, Blossoming Love, Power behind all creation, holy word, You are Almighty,
Which was the moment, what time, what date and which day of the week,
What season, which month, when the universe came into existence,
Pandits could not determine the time of evolution they seek,
Had they known, the Puranas would have recorded the available evidence,
Time has not been discovered by the Kazis,
Had they fathomed the secret they would have compiled in the Holy Koran,
Lunar date and day of evolution was not known to ascetic Yogis,
Season, month was then ever desideratum,
The Almighty God, the Creator who brought into existence
Knows the secret, Himself, none other there is one,
How to say, what praises , to make of the Creator , generous,
How to explain, how to know the natures conundrum,
Oh Nanak, people go on talking incessantly,
Thinking themselves to be wiser than thou,
The great Lord, great is His Command, what He wills happens though,.
O Nanak, if any one pretends to have wherewithals,
To know the time and date of evolution,
He will be interdicted by Omnipotent the Lord Eternal
Of honours in His Court situate in exaltation.
VERSE XXII
There are worlds beyond worlds, myriad worlds,
In hundred thousands below they surround,
And hundred thousands similar galaxies above,
All the Vedas have one thing to propound,
That saints and sages are weary of seeking limit of universe,
There are eighteen thousand worlds, say four Katebas,
The source of which is the Supreme Puissance,
If ever an attempt was made like Smrities, and Shastras,
The endeavour would fail for want of sufficient words and figures,
Oh Nanak, People speak of God’s greatness,
Thy do not know how great is God the Father,
He Himself knows how great He and His Kindness is.
VERSE XXIII
Those who praise the God, praise endlessly,
Yet they do not gain realization how great is God’s creativity,
Like stream, rivulets and mighty rivers flowing into the sea ceaselessly,
Loose their identities, yet do not know the seas’ profundity.
The Kings and emperors who rule from shore to shore of high seas,
Possess huge wealth, yet unequal to an ant with God at its heart.
VERSE XXIV
There is no end to His praises, no end to describing these,
God’s virtues are unaccountable, incomputable and His gifts,
No end to seeing, no end to listening eulogies,
Looks like there is, no end what His will is,
No end to His creation , vastness of the universe is immeasurable,
To find the end, so many stagger,
It’s bounds are not definable,
This end, nobody knows, too much saying results in realisation that God is much bigger,
The great Lord , loft is His abode,
How the celestial place and exalted Name,
Were there be another Supreme Being with all powers bestowed
That will know how great the God is,
How great He is, He Himself knows in His Divinity,
Oh Nanak, the gracious Lord blesses with bounties.
VERSE XXV
So many benevolent blessings cannot be contained in listings,
The great Lord asks not for an iota of gratefulness from anybody,
There are uncountable , matchless warriors who beg His blessings,
So many enjoy His bounties and in vice they ruin their souls and bodies
So many receive the gifts endlessly and then deny,
So many are always afflicted with sorrow and hunger,
This also is blessing of gifts from the Divine,
Freedom from bondage came at His pleasure,
No other way can anybody say,
He endures blows on his face,
If some fool tries to say of another way,
He Himself knows our needs, He Himself showers His grace
Most people do admit
When the Lord showers His blessings,
Of appreciations bounties and gifts,
Oh Nanak, they become King of Kings.
VERSE XXVI
Invaluable is God’s virtue,
Priceless trading in such quality,
Invaluable is dealer who trades in God’s virtuous attributes,
Priceless His store of merits worthy,
Invaluable is one trading in God’s omnipotence,
Priceless the one who takes away with him blessings of the Lord,
Invaluable is God’s benevolence,
Priceless is one who merges with the God
Invaluable is God’s justice,
Priceless is His court with its august glory,
Invaluable the weighing balance, He uses to weigh men’s deeds,
Priceless are weighing stones used in delivering verdicts holy,
Invaluable is blessing of God
Priceless His symbol of blessing,
Invaluable is benevolence of the Lord,
Priceless is God’s benevolence that cannot be measured,
Those who contemplate steadfastly bound to fail,
The holy scriptures like Vedas and Puranas guess,
The scholars who read and deliver sermons propound,
The Brahmans guess the limit of creation,
The Indiras guess His greatness,
The milk maids of Krishna guess about God’s creation,
The Krishnas guess His unlimited Absoluteness,
The Shiv guesses and the divine personage guess,
So many Budhas that God created also have conjectures,
The demon like persons guess,
And the God – like people guess like other creatures,
The hermit saints guess and servants individually guess,
So many make futile guesses and efforts to say how great the Lord is,
So many make vain guesses and leave the world in their hopelessness,
So many persons that Thou hath created are saying with emphasis,
Oh Lord , if you create unlimited number of beings in addition,
Even then none will be able to guess,
The unrestrained limits of Thou, O God and of Thy creations,
Thou hath the powers to become as much great as per Thy willingness
And bring forth unlimited creation at Thy will,
Oh Nanak, He the Truthful only Himself knows how great He is about,
But should a babbler say that God is so much big,
Then he will be catagorised as a fool of fools, a vulgar lout.
VERSE XXVII
What sort of portal is that, O Lord,
And what sort of Thy House, where
Sitting, Thou watchest the entire creation of Thee, O God,
Countless regular vibrations of tunes played by various musicians there
From unexplained sources in Thy creation, O God,
Uncounted persons play the musical instruments,
In melodious tunes from symphony and its off shoots , O Lord
In praise of Thee, many singers continuously play the melodious tunes from musical instruments,
In Thy praise , wind, water, and fire sing at Thy doors,
The so called God’s accountant is also singing Thy praises,
While recording the deeds of actions of Thy subjects in his book,
For Thy judgements, after their good and bad deeds are appraised,
Ishwar, the Shiv, sings , Brahma and the fairies sing,
Inder sitting on his seat along with his conferers sing,
The divine personages sing in their rapturous revelations,
The saint after proper consideration sing Thy praises
And the donors in their contentment also sing Thy praises,
The courageous valiant persons, sing,
The pundits and the well known saints , scriptures they read,
And sing Thy praises along with the Vedas, The Hindu sacred writings,
The fairy like beauties sing Thy praises indeed,
They sing in the worlds in skies, above, under and in all creation.
The gems and jewels, Thou have created ,sing.
Along with the so-called sixty eight holy places,
The mighty warriors and heroes sing,
The entire creation of Thee sing Thy praises.
Every part of the universe sing Thy praises
Every planet in this solar system sing with the cosmos, O God,
The entire universe sing Thy praises,
All that Thou hath created sing Thy praises, O Lord
All those people sing Thy praises who are dear to Thee,
There are colours in Thy Love where saints immerse themselves in Thy admiration,
So many others sing , I have no ability to count myriad of devotees,
Oh Nanak, how can I contemplate about them,
The Creator is Omnipresent, He was, Is and will be ever eternal,
The Lord truthful, His greatness is True,
He is, he will be, was never born, is immortal,
The Lord ,who has created this entire universe,
Various colours, various types and kinds of creations,
He has created the universe with His kindness,
He created , He controls, and he feeds His creation,
That is His greatness,
He will do what pleases Him,
Nobody can ask Him contrary to His will,
Oh Nanak, it is always better to abide by His Will.
VERSE XXVIII
Make contentment your ear rings , O Yogi
And endeavour, your begging bowl,
Let meditation be your sacred ashes, smeared on your body,
And, fear of death, be your patched, worn out gown,
Perfect chastity, be your human flesh and blood,
And faith your staff,
Turn your high caste into universal brotherhood,
Entire humanity is of a single class
If you control your mind you conquer the world,
Obeisance to Him, obeisance incessantly,
From the beginning, unblemished , pure, hath no roots and is imperishable,
Age after age, He hath the same form constantly.
VERSE XXIX
Let wisdom of realization of God, be your sweatmeat,
And, mercy , be your public lunch where you become omnivorous
Let sound of music in every bosom, be sound that your horn permeats,
God himself be your Lord, in whose control is the whole universe,
Your command over magic, O Yogi, will be a days wonder
But your life will be led astray from the path of Almighty,
Cohesion and separation are working in running the affairs of the world,
According to one’s deeds in past lives, one meets his destiny,
And coalesce with others in a family, and do part being a mortal,
Obeisance to him, obeisance incessantly ,
From the beginning, unblemished, pure, hath no roots and is imperishable,
Age after age , He hath the same form constantly.
VERSE XXX
A mythological mother, there is only one,
By contrivance she gave birth to three sons,
One The Brahma became a family man,
Assuming duties to raise and upbring living creature, and persons,
Other , The Vishnu, became the owner of repository,
Taking care to feed all the creatures,
The third, the Shiv, held court assuming powers annihilatory,
Whereas , in reality, it is God’s will ; He directs according to His decree and pleasure,
He watches all living beings, strange it is they do not see Him,
Obeisance to Him, obeisance incessantly,
From the beginning, unblemished, pure, hath no roots and is imperishable,
Age after age, he hath the same form constantly.
VERSE XXXI
God hath His repositories in multitudes of worlds,
Once filled , these store-houses do not deplete,
The universe with its living beings is creation of the Lord,
The providence with His benevolence protect living beings complete,
Oh Nanak, the Omnipresent’s writ prevails infallibly,
Obeisance to Him, obeisance incessantly,
From the beginning, unblemished, pure, hath no roots and is imperishable,
Age after age, he hath the same form constantly.
VERSE XXXII
If from one tongue a hundred thousand tongues sprout,
Each again have, hundred thousand and again twenty hundred thousand growth,
And the Name of the Lord of the universe be repeated redundant.
A hundred thousand times from each tongue,
Through this repetition no one ever attained the ladder to unison with God,
All will be in vain, unless vanity is shun,
On hearing talk of enumeration of repetition of Name of the Lord,
The ants felt like imitating,
Oh Nanak, to attain God’s blessings through the act of enumerating of Name repetition,
Is falsehood and bluff of a boastful liar.
VERSE XXXIII
I have no power to say and no power to remain mute,
No power to beg and no power to grant,
No power to live and no power to die,
No power to govern and no power to be richly grand,
As that will lead to much thrill of the heart,
No power to remain conscious,
No power to be well read,
No power to have a conviction,
No power to have means to escape from the world,
Only He has the power to create and observe His world,
Oh Nanak, no one is magnanimous or mean by himself.
VERSE XXXIV
Nights, seasons, dates and weekdays,
Air, water, fire and the outer worlds,
God in harmony put the world amidst their ways,
Inhabitants are born, they live and die, leaving the world,
Like wayfarers in an inn, who come, stay and leave,
On the earth are placed, various coloured resourceful beings,
Whose names are multifarious and endless that live,
According to the deeds of these beings,
He gives His verdicts truly justified,
True He is, Truthful His court of eternal justice,
Where befit the acceptable saints, infallibly glorified,
With the God’s blessings, some win mark of benevolence, others sifted and punished,
Uncertain their worth, decision pending at the Lord’s Court,
Oh Nanak , the saint and the sinner will experience their virtues or sins
on reaching God’s court.
VERSE XXXV
Religious heights said heretofore are attained in that way,
The new destination of knowledge and its duty is portrayed here,
There are countless kinds of air, water and fire sway,
And countless number of Krishanas and Shivas lived there,
There are countless number of Brahmas,
Being created in the Lord’s creation,
In many countenance, colours and forms;
Countless number of active, living worlds in creation,
Countless number of mountains,
And countless far-fetched sermons,
Countless number of Inder Gods , moon and suns contain,
Countless number of worlds in circles remain,
Countless number of so-called lords and masters,
Countless number of goddesses attires worn,
Countless number of deities and devils muster,
Countless number of ascetics, hermit saints around,
Countless number of jewels and high seas and oceans,
Countless number of mineral resources underground
Countless number of sacred hymns,
Countless number of Kings and Emperors,
Countless number of contemplating beings,
Countless number of attendants and labourers,
Oh Nanak, there is no end to end of searchings.
VERSE XXXVI
In knowledgeable status of a man knowledge is supreme,
In such a state, all types of musical performances,
Ecstasy is felt; spectacles of miraculous performances and scenes,
The making of endeavours , the status look magnificent,
In this status the mind is structured anew,
It transforms into a very splendid beauty,
In that status no verbal expression could be harangued.
If anybody tries, later he repents to find his sheer incapacity,
In that status, awakening is derived and mind sharpened
In that status it matches brilliantly the consciousness of divine being,
and persons reverenced.
VERSE XXXVII
The benevolence status is the state of having strength,
There is no other, none at all existing,
Tither valiant fighters having great strength,
In them God is completely, perpetually pervading,
There, fully attached to God and appreciated he imbibed with God’s merits,
His good looks cannot be expressed in words,
He is beyond spiritual death and do not fall prey to deceit,
In whose heart dwells the Lord,
In several worlds , saints habitat,
Feel like the Truthful God, who dwell in their hearts,
In truthful status, abides the Formless One, Almighty God the Great.
He creates unendingly and watches His creation showering benevolent love,
There are many worlds in the universe,
If anybody talks of reckoning them, there will be no end to calculations,
There are galaxies of worlds and multitudes of bodies,
As the command goes, so exactly spread the formations,
He watches, Is happy, the considerate Lord,
Oh Nanak, it is very hard to express in words.
VERSE XXXVIII
Let austerity be a gold smithery
And patience be the gold smith,
Let belief be the stationary anvil,
And wisdom be the hammer mobile,
Fear of God be the bellows to blow,
And penance be the fire, in the furnace, aglow,
Let divine love be the crucible,
Melt ambrosia, the purified gold, in the crucible.
Mint the coin of Name of God in the Truthful mint,
Upon whom falls blessings of the benevolent Infinite,
It is the work for such people in the world,
Oh Nanak, those people are happy under the kind eye of the Lord.
VERSICAL
Air, guru, the spiritual guide, the savior,
Water, the father,
The great earth, mother,
Day and night are rather,
Two nurses, male and female,
In whose laps , the whole world plays in essence,
The virtuous and the wicked are identifiable,
Who are adjudged in God’s presence,
One’s good or evil deeds bring about,
The nearness or remoteness to the God,
Those who remember the Lord,
Pass away with their great efforts in remembering God
Oh Nanak, they have bright faces and attain salvation
and merge with the God.
